Low Battery Warning!

My running routine is to lightly stretch my legs using the left front tire of my SUV. While I do that I turn on my Ipod and garmin gps.

I should have taken the sign. My garmin said, "Low Battery Warning". I ran anyway. My garmin lasted about 1/4 mile before it shut down. I lasted about a mile. Then I was gassed. Tired. Dizzy. No desire to run. I walked and walked and walked. I thought about calling Amy. When I first started running 26 months ago, I promised I would call if I ever couldn't finish my run. I haven't yet and tonight wasn't going to be the first.

I kept walking away from home on my scheduled course. Around the lake. Past the football field. Thru the parking lot and back towards home. Every park bench I passed I thought about sitting.

This night reminded me of my first attempt at a 20 miler. Around mile 15 I was gassed and 5 miles from home. I took a shortcut and walked the last two miles. I felt the same way that day, as I did tonight.

The good news I made it home. I'm resting. Garmin is charging. I'll live to run another day.

So, is it from a lack of Carbs? Is the Atkin's Diet going to leave me with no energy to get my runs in? Wednesday was my best run in a while. Today was my worst. Time will tell.

All I know is losing 30 or more pounds will help my running in the long run (pun intended).

I hate the Low Battery Warning display. I got it again this morning and I didn't make it through my run. I did make it through my bike.

Just my two cents...

Yes, it's from the lack of carbs. If you weren't running I'd say hooray for Atkins, but since you need some sort of carbohydrate supply in your system for fuel, you might want to check into some other nutritional plan that allows the right kinds of carbs. Keep in mind that weight loss isn't always about the pounds lost, but other numbers such as body fat percentage and BMI. With quick weight loss I often worry about loss of muscle.

Thanks, Irene. I do value your opinion. I guess that's what blogs are for. Everyone's opinions are welcomed here.

You have to fuel the body.....

Hi Pat!
Thanks for commenting back on my blog. I just didn't want you to pass out while running! Good to hear you have planned to back off the running a little while starting Atkins. When it all comes down to it, you have to do what works for you.

Take care. :)

Pat -- I was doing S Beach (low carb and low fat) and started to feel the need for more carbs when exercising for more than an hour, which ultimately sent me elsewhere. Can't imagine you'd be gassed that quickly, but if you "run" into the problem again soon, you might want to look at some other options.
