But, I got my minimum of 11 miles and I ended up running about 82% of the time.

My journey is to eat healthier, run stronger and live life to the fullest.

Mile splits
It took me awhile and while I wasn't thinking about a 47 by 47 goal. I am now thinking about 48 by 48, 48 things to do by 48 and all things 48. You'll see my plan in less than 48 hours and it'll make you smile 48 times. This will be the year of 48.
So, if you know of anything I should do 48 times or for 48 hours, minutes or seconds. Or anything else to do in the next year that is 48, let me know.
Things I won't do:
Run 48 marathons
Eat a 48 ounce steak (although tempting)
Run for 48 hours
Climb Camelback Mountain 48 times
Go to 48 Diamondback baseball games
Race in 48 races (well maybe)
Birthday Plans
It's a low key birthday. I'm sure I'll be getting some presents from family and we usually go out to eat in the evening. But, tonight I have a softball tournament and I'm still watching my weight because of Viv's Weight Loss Challenge that doesn't end until Sunday. I'm in first and would like to get first pick of the really cool prizes she's lined up. So, the dinner has been postponed until sometime next week.
Last Nites Run
It was just a short 2 miler. I ran it all, except for the very end when I walked a bit before turning my secret agent GPS unit off (Garmin). It was cold here, around 65 and I was freezing. I ended up wearing my PF Chang's Rock and Roll sweat shirt over my running shirt. It's nice to have the cooler temps. But, I'm the kind of guy that complains when it's too cold and complains when it's too hot. Luckily, I complain to myself. And occasionally on this blog.
So, remember to give me some ideas for my 48th year on this planet.
I figured out who my running mentor is. Last night I didn't get to run, because I spent the night with the garage door repairman. I felt bad that I was slacking, and this guy came to mind.

Enough about sweaty gear. I did a light run tonight. 2.15 miles in the neighborhood. Ran the whole way, eventhough my feet still hurt a bit and my legs felt tight.
That's the long sleeve tee you get and my bid number. I paid the morning of the race, so getting a two digit number was pretty cool. There's probably 300 halfers and the same number of 5k'ers running. I saw bib #1 on his way back in. I was jealous. Sort of.
This picture doesn't do the line to get into the park justice. It was a bit of a traffic jam and I was afraid I was going to be late. I made it with time to spare. At the registration table, the lady said my name and Ried, Life Strides was sitting next to her. He said Hi. I knew he was going to be there, but I was already in the zone. I wish I could of had more time to talk with Ried. I'm not conversational right before a race. Check out Ried's report, it has pics of the start.
Now lets hope I'm not putting on pounds. Tomorrow I will eat a normal amount of carbs and then I'll run the half marathon Saturday morning.
It's not as pretty as a Road ID, but it has all the same info on something I wear already. I overlayed fictious numbers over my home number and my wife's cell phone. A Pos is my blood type. NKDA is for No Know Drug Allergies and I am an organ donor.
This was a fund raiser for Chandler schools, so each elementary school had a team of teachers, parents and students walking, jogging and running. Most did the 5k, so once I was passed the 1.55 mark it got much less crowded. Unfortunately, more people were passing me on the back half of the course, than were being passed. I traded back and forth with a few people, but eventually they pulled away from me too.
I did have enough gas to kick it in gear for the final .2 and did that in a 10:50 mpm pace. I ran 89% of the race, so I just need to improve on that a bit. This was also the lightest I've weighed for a race (216), so that's got to help.
This is the third 10k I've run and the 30th race overall since August of 2006. As you can see in the graph below, it was my slowest 10k. I'll do the Mesa Turkey Trot again next month and hopefully will have a lot more stamina and get closer to my PR. At last years turkey trot I walked .26 miles of the course. Today I walked .67 miles.
Edit: It's actually my fourth 10k. I forgot I ran the New Times Five and Dime last November. That's where you race the 5k and then the 10k event back to back. I got about 10 minutes to rest in between events. I did the 10k portion in about 1:16:xx. So that would be my slowest. I'm doing both races again this November 9th.

My plan was to pick up the pace over yesterdays run. 4 miles and I wanted to see if I could stay under 11 minutes per mile. The first mile I did it. The rest were not.
A Purdue book store. Do you want the Jelly bellys, Burt's Bees or the poo?
Doesn't matter, cause you can't get in the building.

But, as we got closer to the river, the weeds and brush got higher and higher.
It started out running between the corn rows on a nice flat country road.
I ran past this century farm. It's been in the same family for over 100 years. The name on the mailbox is Ade, which is (I believe) the family that Purdue's football stadium is named after (Ross-Ade Stadium).
He's the sports columnist for the Columbus Dispatch and he wrote a book about Chic Harley, the first great Ohio State football player. I read it on the plane ride home. A great read about a little know all american. If you're into turn of the century history or football, this is well work getting. It's hollywood movie material.
