Seventeen Hundred!

1700 Miles
Back in June of 2006 I started running. That night, my first run I ran about 10
houses. Yep, it was a long run. I then walked the rest of the way for a whopping 1/2 mile. Yesterday I ran my 1700th mile. I've gone from my son walking next to me as I was running (yes, I was that slow) to doing a 5k in 28:49. Tonight I added 2.5 miles onto my total as I did a lower body workout at the gym.
Sore Muscles?
I've worked out on the gym machines multiple times. Last night, while I watched 'The Biggest Loser' I used some 14 lb dumbbells and did some basic lifts. How come, my arms are more sore after the dumbbell free weights, then when I use the machines?
The Three things I love about the Fiesta Bowl
The race, not the football bowl game.
1. I ran a Personal Record for the Half Marathon last year at this race. 2:27:xx
2. I love the t shirt from last year.
3. It's my final race of the year. My Christmas gift to myself.
Here's hoping everyone can give themselves a gift like this.

I think you misunderstand your pain, Pat. It's not the fact that you're using dumbbells that's making you sore. It's the fact that you subjected yourself to the horror that is Vicky on The Biggest Loser. I know I'm in pain whenever I watch her.

Seriously though, similar to how running works your whole body, free weights are more effective than machines. Why? Machines isolate muscles, but your body is not designed that way. Free weights always give you a better workout than machines.

1700 MILES!!!!! That is AWESOME!!!! Isn't it something to remember highschool and how running a couple laps was PURE HELL! Now look at you! I LOVE it!!!! I sure wish I had kept track of my miles over the last few years. I just keep thinking how cool it is that us old folks can do things like this! Have a great run at the Fiesta Bowl! (between us, I'd take a run over a football game, any day...!)

Congrats on 1700 miles! Good luck on the half this weekend (I'll be sitting it out but doing my own long run).

Congrats on 1,700 miles! Quite an achievement.

I'll see you at the Fiesta Bowl race on Sunday.

That is a good quote.

You have come along way. I can't wait to say the same. 1700!!!
Free weights use more lateral muscles for stabilization than do machines. Much better workout.

Wow, 1700 miles. I remember when you broke 1000, not so long ago.

(BTW, how come I'm always 10 posts behind???)
